Role Summary

Cloacina is hiring a Wastewater Design Engineer with a strong technical background in biological wastewater treatment to join our energetic and dedicated team of engineers and designers.

As a wastewater process engineer, you will help perform design assessments of wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal systems to support the design of our membrane bioreactor package treatment systems. Your work will include improving our standard products and processes, as well as brainstorming and developing new and improved systems to meet industry needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design systems to safely, efficiently, and effectively treat wastewater, remove harmful substances, and return water to the ecosystem.
• Assess the need for wastewater treatment systems based on current and projected future flows.
• Assist partnering engineering firms with overall site layout and system specifications.
• Review and critique water and wastewater treatment system proposals, plans, and designs.
• Conduct appropriate cost-benefit analyses for assigned projects.
• Prepare and review Process & Instrumentation Drawings of system equipment.
• Assist with development and maintenance of system control narratives.
• Collaborate with contractors and government agencies regarding construction of new treatment systems.
• Conduct studies regarding the collection, treatment, or distribution of water or wastewater.
• Provide government agencies with technical support and subject matter expertise on water resources and treatment.
• Maintain current knowledge and subject matter expertise.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities

• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to design safe, efficient, and effective treatment systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Ability to run wastewater modeling software (GPS-X, BioWin, or similar), and/or willingness to learn.
• Thorough understanding of applicable government environmental and safety regulations.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Civil, environmental, or chemical engineering is preferred; other engineering disciplines are acceptable with relevant experience.
• At least three years of related experience required.

The ideal candidate is passionate about the environment and improving community water resources, and has a background or interest in wastewater treatment design, wastewater process computer modeling, wastewater treatment operations, or mechanical design. They are curious, solution-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated.
